Did you know that ticket sales cover only 75% of the Cherokee Historical Association’s costs to offer cultural education and performing arts programs to the public? The show cannot go on without the support from individual donors, foundations, and corporations. This is true for most non-profit arts organizations.
People have as many preferences for how to give as they have for giving: therefore, the Cherokee Historical Association offers a variety of convenient ways to support the organization and our mission beyond buying tickets for Unto These Hills Outdoor Drama, the Oconaluftee Indian Village, and our growing list of programs.
The Cherokee Historical Association was established in 1948 in order to carry out the mission of perpetuating and preserving the history and culture of the Cherokee People. We are proud to share our great story with the world and proud to have you as a member.

Other Ways to Give
The Eternal Flame Memorial

$200.00
The story of the eternal flame began well before recorded history. A sacred fire was kept burning using the seven sacred woods in every Cherokee Village’s Council House; the heart of the Cherokee Community. At the beginning of every New Year, Cherokee families would collect embers from the sacred fire and light the fires in their homes with these embers. In 1838, the keepers of the sacred fire took the fire with them into exile as they were forced west along the infamous and tragic Trail of Tears. In 1951, Cherokee tribal leaders retraced the Trail of Tears and discovered the sacred fire had been kept burning in the Blackgum Mountains of Oklahoma. These leaders were allowed to light seven coals from the sacred fire and return with them to the original Cherokee homelands in the east. Today the sacred fire still burns as the Eternal Flame at Mountainside Theatre. Dedicated in 1952, the Eternal Flame once again brings light and warmth to the beloved mountain homeland of the Cherokee People. The Eternal Flame Monument was rebuilt in 2007 for all our visitors to see and enjoy. Around the Eternal Flame Monument are 1,000 spaces where you can honor and memorialize a loved one in stone for all eternity.

Leave A Legacy
Many non-profit organizations receive support from individuals who name the organization in their wills. Many of our members and visitors has made visiting Cherokee and out Cultural District a family tradition. Our members and visitors today are not the first generation to visit us, nor will they be the last. We take great pride in the fact that the families return each year with new generations with whom we can share the triumphant story of the Cherokee People. You can Leave A Legacy by giving to the Cherokee Historical Association through a will or insurance policy.
