Oconaluftee Indian Village
As you enter the Oconaluftee Indian Village, you are swept away to the 18th century. Surrounded by lush and green vegetation, your spirit is calmed by the sound of the cool mountain streams and warm air. Guided tours will take you through craft demonstrations by award-winning artists who will explain the unique Cherokee crafting techniques. Meet historical Cherokee people in the living history section. You can also view special shows throughout the season such as “Time of War” and traditional Cherokee dancing. Sit, relax and dine at the picnic tables with the Oconaluftee natives after you order from the concession area. Don’t forget to pick up a souvenir from the Gift Shop to remember your visit to our Cherokee Indian village.
Our guided tours begin every 15 minutes and after you purchase and/or scan your tickets, you will join us to be seated in the waiting area. After a few moments your tour guide will greet you and will take you on a tour of our Craft Line. The craft line has many stations such as finger-weaving, baskets, pottery, weaponry and more in which you will be able to observe Cherokee artists creating beautiful works of art. Your tour guide will explain how the crafts are made and the purpose of each craft.
-Run time is approx. 30 minutes.
After the guided portion, the village pathway flows directly into what we call the “Living History” Section. Here, you will see replicas of Cherokee homes and community structures. You may go in and explore the replicas. You’ll also find re-enactors dressed in traditional clothing of the time period, feel free to ask them questions!
-Travel at your own pace.
